An all too common sighting
I'm sitting here at a coffee shop, working on a report for work, when I see a sight that is all too common. Two older white men with a young Filipina sitting just two tables away from where I sit. The men are sitting there talking to each other while she just sits there, staring into space. Her face is expressionless and there is no light in her eyes... no life. Most of the time you will see these girls smiling, laughing, pretending to enjoy the company of a man 40 or 50 years older than they are... but there are these moments when you catch them expressing their true feelings... nothing. They are numb. They are told where to go, where to sit, what to do, and how to act. They have to develop a coping mechanism. You can't continue to do something that you hate yourself for every day. You won't make it. Whether they "choose" this life for themselves or not, it is still heartbreaking. No one should be purchased. And these men... do they have daughter or sisters or nieces? How would they feel is someone purchased someone they cared about? I hate it.
