Good News About Injustice Book Launch

One of Gary Haugen's books, Good News About Injustice, was recently published in the Philippines. Monday night, I, along with many of my IJM collegues, attended the book launch which was held at Ayala Cinema (the movie theater in one of the major malls in Cebu City). During the book launch, Gary addressed the audience, telling them a little more about the book and what IJM is doing in Cebu. If you haven't read this book, I would whole-heartedly encourage you to do so. This book, quite literally, changed my life. In the book, Gary lays out what the Bible has to say on three points:

(1) The nature of world - the world is full of suffering and injustice

(2) The nature of God - God is a God of justice, compassion, rescue, and moral clarity. Gary says that the good news about injustice is that God, almighty God, hates injustice and He wants it to STOP.

(3) How the believer is called to respond...

• Isaiah 1:17 - Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause


• Isaiah 58:6 - Is this not the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the opressed go free, and to break every yoke?


• Micah 6:8 - He has shown thee, O man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you: to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

This is why IJM does what it does... because God loves those who are being oppressed and wants to see them rescued. The amazing part is that He gives believers the opportunity to be a part of that rescue.
